There was always something chilling about graveyards, and mysterious. She loved to walk through them on the misty mornings; sometimes she could see the ghosts. They would wallow around in their sorrow being unable to leave Earth. The way they dragged their feet against the ground and hung their head almost made the demon sympathetic. If she were to claim them they’d go straight down to Hell without passing Go or collecting two hundred dollars. It was best if some angel or human found them and assisted them in their passage. That is, if they wanted a mindless life in Heaven. The demon couldn’t imagine being there. She asked too many questions, and questions led to problems with the angels. The angels didn’t question their God. It was best she was a demon as she’d be a terrible angel.
Not all humans who die return as angels, she reminded herself as her fingertips grazed over a smooth, cool headstone. There was no headstone for Ami. The girl had been buried in a sacred place—hallowed ground that Yin could not cross onto. It nearly broke her heart that she couldn’t even visit the grave of the one she formerly felt so attached to. It had been hundreds and hundreds of years since she’d last seen the girl. Yin knew that she was somewhere in Heaven. Ami had been an angel without truly being one. A human with a kind, compassionate heart and tolerance for all—even her. An aching in Yin’s chest caused her to cast the thoughts away. She hated to think about Ami. She also hated to think about Isaak. Her pale, slim fingers moved up to her left cheek and grazed over the strange, red marking there. It had appeared there after she’d killed him. Yin hadn’t a clue why. She figured it was a curse of some sort.
The crossroads demon continued deeper into the large graveyard. It was cold this morning. The dew felt nice against her bare feet as she walked. If God was such a benevolent kind of deity, then why had he allowed someone as innocent as Ami to die so early? If Yin hadn’t sold her soul to the Devil then Ami would’ve been dead at a mere 10-years-old. The girl had never done anything wrong. She had been an orphan, like Yin, and unwanted. Her sweet disposition had brightened the old, poor orphanage in a way that no one else could. It just felt wrong for the Christian God to so selfishly allow her to die.
Yin stopped before a headstone and gazed up at the sky. “Why, then?” She asked, “Why did you let an innocent girl die so young, hmm?” Her eyes grew darker and her teeth clenched, “I wish someone would tell me why!” If that didn’t summon some smartass angel to try and lecture her on the ways of God, then nothing would.

There was something about graveyards that Gabriel just didn't like very much. Whether it be the tons upon tons of dead bodies under his feet or the gloomy ghosts that pestered him for redemption. It wasn't like he could do anything for them anyways. If he took one up to Heaven the others would also want to go up as well and Gabriel was anything but a ghost whisperer. So, he preferred to avoid the dark and eerie fields of tombstones as much as possible. Except for whenever he wanted to dig up a grave or two. Not that I ever...grave-rob...or anything...
Gabriel heard a voice. No, not one of those those creepy little voices that nagged at you in the back of your head. It was a female voice, by the sound of it, and it was coming from somewhere nearby. It just so happened, that Gabe had his "prayer radar", as he called, turned on, so he wasn't very surprised at what he was hearing. People always questioned "the Heavens". What really surprised the archangel was that he was getting demon vibes from the voice.
A demon that prays? That's a new one. The Trickster, being his curious self, decided that he would have no choice but to peek in on this little scene and throw in his two cents. After-all, this demon evidently wanted some answers and Gabriel was happy to provide some. Even though they were likely to be the most smart-ass answers in existence.
Gabriel appeared a few feet away from the girl, an eyebrow quirked and smirk on his face. "Sweetheart, you know talking to the sky doesn't really work right?" He snickered, putting a hand in his pocket and leaning to one side. "If you think the moon is gonna start talking to you and giving you answers to your questions, then you best be taking your meds."

It was one thing when one talked to the Heavens and was alone. It was another when someone actually decided to answer the single-person conversation. Here Yin was thinking she was simply enjoying an angst moment alone when BAM a voice replied to her. The demon was startled. She hadn’t sensed anyone approaching her, or anyone in the area, for that matter. Yin turned to face the newcomer. He was a sort of handsome fellow she’d shamelessly admit. The only problem was he wasn’t quite human, or something nonthreatening to her. In fact, she didn’t know what he was. Yin just knew he wasn’t human and that he could probably melt her on the spot if he wanted to. The question was—did he want to?
Yin regarded him warily and took a hesitant step back. “It wasn’t like I was looking for answers. Heaven never answers the likes of me. I’m sure they’d rather send me back under the ground than answer my questions. Besides…” her dark eyes shifted around cautiously, “I didn’t think anyone else was here.”
With a tilt of her head her expression turned curious. On the inside her heart was fluttering against her chest. The last thing she wanted was to get involved with something supernatural again. To do that would get her drug right back into the drama she’d wanted to escape. Still, this guy was interesting. There was something about him that caught her attention, and she supposed that was the mysteriousness surrounding his race.
“Who are you, anyways? Why are you out here in the graveyard so early in the morning? I hope you’re not trying to raise the dead. We have enough trouble around anymore as it is…” Her lips curled into a slight, teasing smile. It was hard to not try to be friendly. Yin hadn’t spoken to another person in a bit, and she was feeling quite lonely. It was strange to think of a demon as lonely. Yin always figured most demons were emotionless, and she was somehow an exception. The feelings she’d experienced after returning from Hell had to have been a trigger to her eccentric ways. Then again, Yin didn’t know why she’d be that special. She just brushed the assumption off as one of her many odd musings.
Yin visibly relaxed, “well, if you’re not going to smite me or anything, then I might as well give you my name. You can call me Yin.”

"Well hey there Yin, the name's Loki." he replied, his smirk turning into a friendly type of grin. He took a few steps forward to get a closer look at the woman in front of him and Gabriel couldn't help but to brighten a little. Whomever this demon was she was actually kind of cute. She mustn't have been all that bad, because she hadn't tried ripping his throat out at his sudden appearance.
"Sorry if I startled you." He added in, winking at her in his most charming manner. "I couldn't help but to overhear your pleadings with the douchebags of Heaven." Gabriel loved to refer to his brethren as "douchebags". To the Trickster, that's exactly what they were. Yeah, yeah, he loved them, that didn't mean he couldn't insult them. What fun is that? Brothers and sisters were made for pestering and tormenting. No, not torture tormenting, but pranking and annoying the hell out of them kind of tormenting.
Noticing Yin's sudden loss of caution, he also dropped his guard a bit. It wasn't like she was a real threat anyway. Gabriel was an archangel, if he really wanted to he could burn her extra crispy right here, right now. But he didn't want to, that was the thing. If a demon had enough of a "heart" to worry with an innocent dying, they must be of a good nature. Or, as good as a demon can get.
"Oh, you can call me Gabe though." Gabriel says, realizing he gave out his undercover pagan name. "The humans, they take a liking to that name better. Can't go around calling me the Trickster." He laughed a little bit and inched his way forward.
"Oh and no, unfortunately I'm not here to raise the dead. That's not until next weekend." Gabe was joking of course and he said it with sarcasm, hoping that Yin didn't really take it literally. He wasn't stupid enough to raise the dead. Only morons would do that. Ignorant. Ignorant. Morons.

Loki. That was the name of a Norse God, if Yin wasn’t mistaken. He didn’t seem like a God, but who knew? It wouldn’t be the first time she’d made that mistake. She allowed him to come closer to her as his demeanor put her more at peace. This Loki guy didn’t seem all that bad. Actually, he looked like he was willing to even be friendly with her. Yin allowed herself to give him a good once-over now that she could get a better look. Oh, he was definitely not ugly. What was it with beings needing vessels to always grab the cuties? Yin had settled for her own body as a vessel; she didn’t think she looked too bad. It hadn’t really mattered much to her either way. The men she hooked up with usually were either drunk or didn’t care who they slept with. What could she say? Yin liked sex. She wouldn’t sleep with any old Joe—they obviously had to be good-looking and catch her attention—but it wasn’t like she had a lover to turn to specifically. Another good question was where all this thought about sex now coming from. Yin pushed the thoughts in the back of her mind and shook her head slightly. That was for another place and time. Loki here was attractive, but they’d just met and were in a graveyard. It wasn’t the ideal place for flirting.
His wink and comment set her even more at ease and even caused her to smile at him. He was sort of funny. She liked that. “Well, I got a lot to say to them. That much is for sure.” Her gaze went down to the headstone she’d been touching—Isaak Lebedev, died in 1970 and forever missed. Another ache squeezed into her chest. “There are people there that I hope they’re taking good care of, after all.” Yin gazed up at his eyes seriously. Just because she was a demon didn’t mean she didn’t have people she loved up in Heaven. She wanted to make that clear.
It was quite a wonder how one went from Loki to Gabe. Yin blinked for a few moments in thought. Gabe—like Gabriel? Well, he’d appeared while she was questioning the Heavens…no…no, stop that. That was a ridiculous assumption. Gabe was obviously the name Loki went by with humans so they didn’t give him weird looks. There weren’t many humans named Loki in the world. The fact the name resembled an archangel of the Lord was pure coincidence. Angels didn’t give her the time of day—especially archangels. Yin laughed softly, “Gabe…that’s a nice name. It has a lovely ring to it…I like it.”
Yin noticed his inching forward, and decided that it was sort of cute in a curious way. She decided to play his game and took another step forward. He was actually at her height. It was another thing Yin liked. It was weird, but Yin seemed to have a thing for men shorter than her or men at her height.
“Well, if you’re a tricky fellow, then why not?” She asked in an amused tone. “I enjoy a good prank myself.” Her eyes flashed with more amusement at his sarcasm. “Oh? Well, make sure you invite me when you decide to do that,” Yin joked in return, “I want to be sure I know who’s a zombie and should be avoided at all costs. Besides…” she winked, “if they turn on you, perhaps I’ll give you a hand. It depends.”

She likes my name! That was the thought that popped into his head. Gabriel wasn't sure why, but as soon as he laid eyes on Yin he liked her. Which was unusual and probably considered blasphemy. Archangels weren't supposed to like demons, they were the heartless scum of the Earth. At least, that was what Michael would always say. Gabe believed otherwise. They could change... Couldn't they?
"Oh would you now?" He seemed slightly surprised when she said she would possibly give him a hand. Was he really making such a dashing first impression on her? He must have, or else he would have been bitch slapped across the graveyard by now. Some women had the annoying ability to resist his charm, which made Gabriel not only moody beyond belief but doubtful of his seductive ways.
"...So...what are you doing in a gloomy ole graveyard like this?" asks "Loki", stopping his inching forward now that he was standing directly in front of Yin. He felt oddly short now, being the same height as his new acquaintance. Could be worse. Gabriel thinks to himself. She could have been taller than me!
Gabe pitied his poor vessel. Compared to certain people he looked like a shrimp. An all powerful, winged shrimp. In his true form, Gabriel was bright, big and ready to kick some asses. Although, being the youngest out of Michael, Lucifer and Raphael, he was considered the 'baby brother' of the four. Not nearly as huge as Michael, but definitely bigger than a smaller angel such as Cupid.
Gabriel gazed around him, eyes scanning the different epitaphs on the headstones. It gave him the chills. All the emotion, the sadness, in the loved ones engravings. Gabe ripped his eyes from them, looking back over at Yin.
"Do you come here often?" It was a simple enough question that was really none of Gabriel's business. But, he asked anyways, striking a conversation. Talking was one of Gabe's strong points after-all. He wanted to snag this cutie into a convo with him.

“Well, I said it depends, didn’t I?” Yin smirked deviously. She leaned forward to where their noses almost touched, her dark eyes glowing with her playful nature. Her voice lowered to almost flirty levels, “on what? You’ll have to find that one out, buddy.” Yin leaned back and laughed—a nice, warm, and good-hearted laugh. She was playful and fun when caught in the right mood. It was just in her nature to be that way, and to be that way also came with being a tad flirtatious. She had spent too many years toying with men in bars. They were so fun to mess with, especially when she left them empty-handed. The puppy-dog face of utter despair just made it for her. Yin was still a demon, and she was a woman. One couldn’t blame her for sometimes being a tease.
The question on the graveyard threw her off. Yin’s lips went firm and twitched toward a frown. Her gaze went downcast toward the headstone and she swallowed. A soft sigh escaped her lips, “well, truthfully, I was visiting a grave. It was meant to be nostalgic and all, but then you popped in and suddenly it’s fun. Congrats.” She gestured to the grave, “this is…well, his name was Isaak. Isaak Lebedev. I met him in Russia back in the 1950s after World War II.” She hesitated, “but, I don’t think you want to hear my sob story. I’ll just leave it at that.”
The atmosphere in this graveyard was suddenly uncomfortable. Yin shifted her weight and drew away from the grave. Suddenly, she didn’t want to be there anymore. She just wanted to go somewhere, anywhere, to get away. It was strange how the place could become so suffocating in the blink of an eye. Yin lifted her gaze to meet Gabe’s thoughtfully. “Say…how about we go somewhere else? Anywhere. You choose.” Her hand cautiously reached out and took his and her smile began to return to her face. “You have my hand, so lead me anywhere!” It was an interesting game to play.

The sudden grab of the hand caught Gabriel off guard. He hadn't expected her to do that. He knew she was flirting, leading him on and although he knew it was wrong, he liked it. Liked it a lot. Michael's voice was growling at him in the back of his mind. She's a demon, brother. Have you no shame? Gabriel grinned a cheeky grin. Nope. He hadn't the slightest bit of shame for his attraction towards this female demon.
Yes, it was wrong to be flirting with the "enemy" but it was so wrong that it almost seemed right. Like sometimes when puppy dogs are so ugly their cute. Gabe squeezed Yin's hand softly and gave her a smile. "Sure thing, cutie cakes." He replies, doing what she requested. She wanted to get away from here, he would take her away from here. He would have loved to teleport them elsewhere, but he knew it would probably blow his whole "I'm not an angel" cover.
Gabe began to walk, although it seemed more like a skip, towards the giant exit gate of the cemetery. He still held onto her hand, actually kind of enjoying it. It was rare for him to hold hands with anyone. Although Gabriel seemed like the flirty and romantic type, he had never actually got into any serious relationships. Who would date an archangel anyway? They'd probably be too scared to. Unless, Gabe lied and pulled the "what are you talking about Willis? I ain't no archangel, are you nuts?" card.
"...So..." Gabriel glanced over at Yin, a sparkle in his eyes. "Did you escape from prison? Because it should be illegal to look that good." A corny pick up line...a perfect mood up-lifter. The Trickster began to laugh now, at his own corniness. He had always wanted to say that to someone, looks like now he had finally done it.
Gabe stopped just outside the gate, taking one last look over his shoulder at the array of stones, barely visible in the dark. A ghost spotted him and gave a small pathetic wave, as if to ask for help before disappearing into the night. Gabriel shuddered before turning his head back.
"How would you like a drink?" He purrs, leading Yin down the road, now swinging their arms. "I heard the place down the street has the best martini's in town....not to mention THE hottest dancers known to man."

Was it strange to think that his hand was actually quite soft? Yin pondered this as he took her toward the exit of the cemetery. She glanced back once more toward Isaak’s grave with a silent farewell. She could always return later once she was done playing around with her new acquaintance, who she hoped to make a friend. He was a good guy as far as she knew. Yin was interested in getting to know him better. She was curious as to where he was going to take her, but decided to not ask. The adventure was to find out when she got there. Yin was putting her trust in his ability to judge what fun; that wasn’t something that Yin did often. It was hard for her to find trustworthy people anymore, especially as a demon. Everyone either thought she was a backstabber or they backstabbed her. Yin couldn’t list a single person she called a friend currently. If things went well she wanted to add Gabe to the list as her first, new friend. Joking with herself, Yin wondered if he’d have the new friend smell.
His pick-up line made Yin burst into laughter. It was so corny that it was hilarious. She squeezed his hand gently as she composed herself. Yin’s eyes were sparkling now as well, “if I answered yes are you going to return me or keep me all for yourself? I’m telling you now, I’m quite a catch!” She laughed again. The suffocating atmosphere lifted and became freer yet again. It was a relief. Yin sucked in a deep breath.
The two reached the end of the graveyard. Yin gazed at the cemetery gates and failed to notice Gabe’s shudder at a spirit that had waved at him. It would’ve made her wonder yet again. She only looked over to him when he mentioned drinking. Yin’s brow rose, “this early in the morning? Is the place even open?” Still, she grinned and gave a slight nod. “I’d love to have a drink with you, Gabe. It sounds fun.” And it’d relieve her loneliness. Killing loneliness was the best past time ever. Yin chuckled at his comment on the dancers and feigned a dramatic flip of her hair.
“Oh please,” she teased, “I’m sure they have nothing on me.”
